Ronald A. Westerhuis
Ronald Anthonie Westerhuis is a Dutch visual artist based in Zwolle. He is internationally renowned for his landscape art and abstract sculptures, which can often be found in public spaces, museums and private art collections worldwide. His passion for stainless steel began while working on oil rigs in the North Sea, where he became fascinated by the raw beauty of the material that now forms the basis of his artworks. Westerhuis's distinctive vision, “Size does matter!”, mainly results in large sculptures that become true landmarks with a striking impact. One of his most iconic works is the design for the Olympic flame for the 2008 Games in Beijing. He also created the imposing work “Pride - Amsterdam” and collaborated with architect Daniel Libeskind on sculptures for the World Exhibition in Milan. In addition, Westerhuis has been involved in important memorials, such as the monument for the victims of flight MH17 in Vijfhuizen. With his impressive and versatile oeuvre, he belongs to the new generation of artists who enjoy worldwide recognition.
