What the Body Whispers
What the Body Whispers explores how the body tells stories through subtle gestures. The body appears as a boundary between the visible and the hidden, in which fragmentation and transformation leave room for imagination. The artists join a long art-historical tradition in which the body is constantly re-examined and carries meaning, even in silence.
Steven Peters Caraballo reinterprets the mythical ferryman Charon through a single body fragment: the mouth. These silent, sensual lips move between speech and silence, closeness and distance. Through repetition and variation, the paintings become physical and confrontational.
In her performances, Wolfe De Roeck explores the boundary between body and object. In My, I Present You, she questions historical ideals of beauty and identity. The body remains in motion and forms a meeting space between performer and spectator.
In My, I Present You bevraagt zij historische schoonheidsidealen en identiteit.
