Atelier Van Lieshout
Atelier Van Lieshout is the studio founded by sculptor and visionary Joep van Lieshout. After graduating from the Rotterdam art academy, Van Lieshout quickly gained fame with his sculptures and installations, buildings and furniture, utopias and dystopias. Van Lieshout established his studio in 1995 and has worked exclusively under the studio's name ever since. In Van Lieshout's practice, the studio name exists as a method of undermining the myth of artistic genius. Over the past three decades, Atelier Van Lieshout has built up a multidisciplinary practice that produces works on the borderline between art, design, and architecture. By exploring the fine line between making art and mass-producing functional objects, he searches for the boundaries between fantasy and function, between fertility and destruction.
